About Chapter Pages
Each chapter page contains the full content of that chapter. At the top of the page, you will see the Book Title. Just below it are three buttons to navigate between chapters and to the Table of Contents (TOC). Then comes the Chapter Title, followed by "Chapter Controls", and finally, the chapter content itself.
Chapter Navigation
The " < " button (or the Left Arrow key) takes you to the "Previous Chapter"
The " > " button (or the Right Arrow key) takes you to the "Next Chapter".
If the previous or next chapter doesn't exist, these buttons take you to the Table of Contents.
The " TOC " button takes you directly to the "Table of Contents".
At the bottom of the chapter page, you will also find a "Top" button that scrolls you back to the top of the page.
Chapter Controls
Chapters can be viewed in one or more columns. Use the "Cols++" and "Cols--" buttons, or the "+" and "-" keyboard keys, to adjust the column count. Column count is a site-wide setting.
You can read a chapter in one of three modes:
- Simple Web Page
- Single Section View
- Full Chapter View
The "View Mode: ... " button toggles between the three modes. This setting is site-wide.
You can hide or show the chapter controls by pressing the Escape key or the "Show/Hide Chapter Controls (Esc)" button. This setting is also site-wide.
View Modes
Simple Web Page View: This mode provides minimal control buttons, and those can also be hidden by pressing the "Show/Hide Chapter Controls (Esc)" button or the Escape key.
Single Section View: This mode displays one section at a time with navigation buttons ("First", "Previous", "Next" and "Last") to navigate through the sections of the chapter.
- When showing the first section, the "First" and "Previous" buttons are disabled.
- When showing the last section, the "Next" and "Last" buttons are disabled.
- The "Home", "Left Arrow", "Right Arrow" and "End" keyboard keys do the same navigation.
- A dropdown list of section names lets you jump to any section.
- When there are no more sections to navigate to, pressing the Left or Right arrow keys will navigate to the previous or next chapter.
Full Chapter View: In this mode, all sections are available to view. The controls in this mode provide additional flexibility to choose specific sections for viewing.
- Sections are presented as buttons labeled with the section's names. Clicking a section button shows or hides that section.
- The area just below the chapter title and before any named sections is labeled as "Chapter Intro".
- Use "Show/Hide Sections" button to toggle the display of all sections.
- Use "Section Click = One Section" checkbox to change whether clicking a section shows only that section or toggles its visibility.
- When "checked" and when you click a section button, only that section shows.
- When "not checked" and when you click a section button, that section is shown or hidden.
- This is a site-wide setting.
- Use "Multicol Sections Individually" checkbox to adjust whether contents are presented in multiple columns individually for each section or combined for the whole chapter.
- When "checked", it presents each section in the specified number of columns.
- When "not checked", it presents the entire chapter in the specified number of columns.
- This is a site-wide setting.
Listening Instead Of Reading
Most modern browsers include built-in Text-To-Speech (TTS) capabilities - or you can use a "TTS-extension". TTS software, whether built-in or an extension, converts the text on the page into speech. Some browsers may call this feature "Read Aloud".
This site is designed to work well with TTS software, and most non-text visual interface elements, like buttons, won't be read aloud by the TTS software, making for a smoother listening experience.
