About Site Settings

The "Settings" button is located at the top right corner of every page except the home page. On the home page it appears at the bottom. Clicking it opens the "Site Settings" panel, which includes buttons to control various features of the website.

Brightness Controls

The screen brightness is adjusted by changing the background color of the webpage. On your first visit, the background uses a moderate brightness.

• The "Lighter Background" button increases the background brightness, making the screen appear whiter and hence brighter.

• The "Darker Background" button decreases the background brightness, darkening the screen.

When the background is darker, the text appears lighter, and when the background is whiter, the text appears darker.

• If you press the "Lighter Background" button when already at the brightest setting, the brightness resets to a moderate level.

• Similarly, if you press the "Darker Background" button when already at the darkest setting, the brightness resets to a moderate level.

Font Size Controls

By default, the text is displayed at a regular font size.

• The "Smaller Font" button decreases the font size by one size. Repeatedly pressing the button will reduce the font size to half of the default size.

• The "Larger Font" button increases the font size by one size. Repeatedly pressing the button will increase the font size up to double the default size.

When you press either button while at its limit, the font size resets to the regular size.

Font Control

On your first visit, the text is displayed using the default font. You can change this by:

• Pressing the "Previous Font" button to select the font before the current one. If you are already at the first font in the list, it wraps to the last font in the list.

• Pressing the "Next Font" button to select the next available font. If you are already at the last font in the list, it wraps to the first font in the list.

• You can select the font from a dropdown list.

Other Settings and Controls

• "Cols++" and "Cols--" buttons adjust the number of columns in which chapter contents are displayed

• Chapters can be viewed in one of three viewing modes. The default mode for all books can be set with the "Default Chapter View Mode:" dropdown list containing the following options:

  • Simple Web Page
  • Single Section View
  • Full Chapter View The "About Chapter Pages" chapter explains these viewing modes in detail.

• Chapter controls can be shown or hidden by pressing the Escape key or the "Show/Hide Chapter Controls (Esc)" button. This is especially useful when viewing on devices without a keyboard.

Settings Storage

These settings apply to most pages and are stored in your browser's "local storage", not on the website itself. Your preferences are preserved when navigating between pages or returning to the site, even after closing the browser.
