Spider Webs and Neural Networks
Tell me something about a spider's web.
Tell me something about the neurons in our brain and the neural network that it forms.
Compare and contrast a spider web with the neural network in our brain.
Just like a spider builds its web, we also build our neural network. But how?
For a spider to build a good web, it must do several things right. Similarly for us, in order for us to build our own neural networks well, we must do several things right. What are those things that we must do?
Just like a spider web has a function, our neural network also has a function. What do you think it is?
I would say that the primary function of our neural network is to enable us to have a good life.
But we don't live in isolation; we live in a society. So, we can only have as good a life as our society allows. If our society is better, we could have a better good life. If our society is the best possible, we could have our best possible good life. That is, if our society is a utopia, we could have a personal utopia. In order for us to have the best possible good life, we ought to also aim to build the best possible society.
So, the complete answer to the question "What is the purpose of our neural network?" is to enable us to live a good life in a good society. Is there a better purpose than this?
I am sure that we can find a better purpose than the one I just outlined. But we do not live in a Utopia and very few of us experience our own personal utopia. So, baby steps; first things first. Let us attempt to have our own personal utopia within current society. At the same time, we should work to build utopia out of our society; so that all citizens can enjoy the best possible personal utopia. Once we succeed, we can aim for bigger things.
